Where is Las Vegas anyway?

Las Vegas is located in the Mojave Desert in the State of Nevada, and if you are not making a trip through California, the best way to get to Las Vegas is by plane.

Domestic flights are a cheap and common way to travel from one city to another in the United States. For example, you can fly from New York to Las Vegas on a flight that averages 6 hours.

McCarran International (Las Vegas International Airport) is the main passenger airport in Las Vegas and can also be a reference point for the pick-up of a rental car, so you can enjoy your trip in Sin City even more!

But despite being known by this nickname, did you know that the city has very strict laws in several aspects? Check them out below!

Why are the laws in Vegas different?

Since the city was planned to be what it is today - a true cradle of entertainment and gambling in casinos - it is quite common for most people to think that everything is allowed there, but that is not quite how it works.

There are various restrictions, especially when it comes to age. For example, there are a number of things that you cannot do if you are under 21. Not having reached the required age, you will not be able to:

  • Consuming alcoholic beverages in establishments and on the streets;
  • Gambling inside the city's casinos;
  • Buy marijuana (in authorized places);
  • Attend concerts with nudity (adult entertainment).

The truth is that people under 21 years old are not even allowed inside casinos, not even when accompanied by their parents. On the subject of marijuana, although it is sold for recreational use in some establishments, smoking is not allowed on the streets and public places, consumption is only allowed on private property.

As for prostitution, it is allowed in Nevada, but only in cities with less than 700,000 people. Clark County, where Vegas is located, has more people than that, so prostitution is illegal there. But still, there are several places that act illegally for the practice.

Known as the Capital of Lights of the United States, as we mentioned, the city is home to the largest number of casinos in the country. Vegas is pure glamour, fun, and the place to test your luck with gambling. For those who like to party at night, it is a very inviting place. But of course, that's not all!

If you want to have an invigorating vacation, the city is also perfect! The hotels and resorts in the region are true paradises for relaxation: they have SPAs, pool complexes, whirlpools, saunas, and everything you're entitled to.

But where to start? Which points to visit first?

1. Experience the Las Vegas Strip!

The first attraction on the list is, without a doubt, the main avenue in Las Vegas, the Strip. Tourists always go there! It is an avenue about 6.7 kilometers long, where the main hotels and casinos in the city are concentrated.

The scenery is megalomaniacal, and if you are going for the first time, you are sure to be dazzled by the amount of lights that illuminate the city.

You will feel like you are in a movie. Renting a car to see as many places as possible on the avenue is, without a doubt, the best option!

2. Check out the fountain show at the Bellagio Hotel!

Since you are going to the famous Strip, take the opportunity to visit the Bellagio and its fountains, which are located exactly on this avenue. The Bellagio is one of the most popular casino hotels in the city.

There you will enjoy the "Water Show" that takes place in the huge fountain in front of the hotel. All the tourists who are around stop to see the show. It is really enchanting!

In addition, the Bellagio has been the setting for several Hollywood movies, and if you are a movie fan, you will recognize it when you get there in person.

3. Venture into Red Rock Canyon!

If you are the kind of person who travels in search of adventure, Vegas also has good options. By the way, the city is famous for its canyons. Red Rock Canyon is the largest preservation area in Nevada, and if you decide to visit it, you will have the opportunity to experience a real movie set.

The natural beauty of the place will amaze you, after all, we are talking about several rocky mountains, in a setting where it is possible to climb and enjoy the incredible view.

So get your adventure kit ready: climbing boots, hat, water bottle, sunscreen, and head for the Red Rock Canyon. But for easy access to the region we suggest you rent a car, because the routes are outside the city.

4. Have fun at the Casinos!

The casinos are always the most remembered attractions when talking about Vegas. You can't go there without visiting the casinos. However, for that, it is good to have time and money in your pocket.

The best options are: Monte Carlo Casino, Wynn Casino, Aria Casino, Rampart Casino, The Venetian, Sunset Station Casino, Harrah's Casino, Caesars Casino, Rio All-Suite Casino and The Cosmopolitam.

All of these are large, luxurious casinos, with numerous slot machines, poker tables, and various gaming machines to test your luck and skills for extra cash when enjoying your trip to Vegas.

5. Go shopping at the Las Vegas Outlets!

Vegas is also a great place for shopping, after all, there are numerous stores to purchase a multitude of different products.

Generally, Brazilians like to go shopping in the United States because there are many products that cannot be found in Brazil, and the prices are usually worth it, since there are not so many taxes.

Most of the Outlets in Las Vegas are located on the Strip, so you shouldn't have too much trouble finding them. Our tip is to visit the Fashion Show Mall, the Grand Canal Shoppes, Miracle Mile Shops, The Forum Shops and The Shops at Crystals.
